Argeles Sur Mer is a seaside resort on the Mediterranean Coast in the South-West of France. 7km of beach, with a marina and another beach (Racou) at the south end, Casino.
A road train runs round from Place Gambetta in the village via the beaches and another via the campsites. It’s free except in high season.
Only 20km from the Spanish border, so you can fly in to Gerona and drive, but Perpignan airport is only 25km away with flybe, ryanair, bmibaby as well as Air France. Vehicle hire firms at the airport open for all flights - though the online booking systems don’t always seem to know that. Shuttle bus to Perpignan bus station and railway station meets all flights. Straight off plane, pick up bags, onto bus, in Perpignan centre within 30 mins of landing.
Argeles railway station is on the line from Perpignan to Barcelona (overnight through train from Paris). Irregular service along the coast by train or bus but by train you can reach Perpignan in 20 minutes in one direction, and other coastal resorts Collioure, Port Vendre, Banyuls and Cerbere in the other (so stay near the village rather than near the beach if you want to travel around by public transport.
Lots of wineries around (Chateau Valmy the nearest to Argeles). Not that much to see in Argeles-Sur-Mer itself - church, local history museum - but not a bad centre for exploring the region. An interesting nature reserve on the banks of the river Tech (and if you walk through it to the beach you find the naturist reserve). Not much entertainment outside high season, but that is true of all the resorts on this, the sunniest bit of France.
